Why do American school systems only study English literature?

In my recent blog post, I explored the question of why American school systems predominantly focus on English literature. I discovered that this is largely due to the fact that English is the official language of the United States, and therefore, studying literature in English helps students improve their language and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the historical and cultural ties between America and Britain contribute to the emphasis on English literature. However, I also discussed the importance of diversifying the literary curriculum by including works from various cultures and languages. In conclusion, while the focus on English literature has its reasons, it's beneficial to expose students to a wider range of perspectives in literature.
